Call it the 'David Cameron factor' but last week saw the launch of "the first eco-motor insurance product" (The Co-operative Insurance Society); the "first eco-car discount" (More Than); and the UK's "first 'green personal insurance' brand with no price premiums added for being eco-friendly" (Climatesure).
It appears that the bike-riding Tory leader's objective to put the environment back on the political agenda has certainly rubbed off on the insurance market.
CIS' move is not surprising given its parent's ethical stance, and includes features such as offsetting 20% of CO2 emissions for every vehicle insured, premium discounts for 'greener' cars and an "environmental-backed claims service", whatever one of those is.
Climatesure also aims to offset the greenhouse gases created by not only the motor policies its sells but travel too. Set up by self-proclaimed "eco-entrepreneur" Mike Mason, the company has attracted underwriting support from Axa, Norwich Union and Groupama.
