A broker faces prison after admitting selling GBP10m of policies without any underwriters to back them.

John Walker ran Edinburgh-based Tribune Risk Services when the Financial Services Authority called in the liquidators in December 2003 after discovering personal lines policies - later found to number 43,000 - had no cover in place.

At Edinburgh Sheriff Court, Mr Walker pleaded guilty to fraudulently obtaining GBP10.95m by selling unauthorised policies, which he pretended were backed by Lloyd's.
