NOTORIOUS loyalist Mark Haddock was critically ill in Belfast's Royal Victoria Hospital last night after being hit several times in a gun attack near his home.

Haddock, who was alleged last year in the Dail to have been involved in nine murders, was also named by Labour leader Pat Rabbitte under parliamentary privilege last year as an RUC Special Branch agent who had been allowed to "act with impunity".

Recently described in a Belfast courtroom as a leading UVF figure, 36-year-old Haddock was gunned down close to Mossley Orange hall at Old Carrick Rd, Newtownabbey.
