None of the conference finalists played in the 2004 playoffs, and the Oilers are the only former Stanley Cup champions still alive. They have won the Cup five times, most recently in 1990. The other teams' Stanley Cup finals experience:

Ducks: once; lost to the Devils in 2003.

Hurricanes: once; lost to the Red Wings in 2002.
