Union, S.C., is a town that loves GNCC racing. Every year, since 1996, the town of Union and the surrounding community show up for the race and cheer on the riders. This year, Mother Nature decided she was going to throw the fans and racers a bit of a curve ball. Friday night, as we checked into the race grounds, the weather was perfect.
According to the forecasters, however, the weather was far from perfect. A tornado watch was placed in the area until the early morning as tornadic storms rushed east after destroying parts of Tennessee.

It looked as if it would be a muddy mess when racer awoke to threatening skies Saturday morning. As the riders prepped for a mud race, the storm started organizing itself, only it went north and south of the track.
It rained, but it rained the perfect amount. It was the perfect storm, so to speak. The Big Buck course was mighty dry and dusty, but steady sprinkles throughout the morning meant the track would be in perfect shape for the races.
So those who spent all morning prepping for a mud race looked a little strange with all that foam on their helmets. But better safe than sorry, right?

Youth Notes
Once again Walker Fowler of Rogers, Ohio took the top spot during the youth race. He quickly put his Cobra ATV out front and never looked back. Fowler is now an amazing 8-0 in GNCC races.
How can he be 8-0 when there's only been three events? He races both the 90 Production Modified (11-15) class on the ATV side and the Big Wheel (12-13) class on the dirt bike side. In four ATV races, he has four first overall finishes, too. Pretty impressive stuff for someone who is in seventh grade.
Sam Parr of Akron, Ohio raced to second overall. Parr had a tough couple of rounds at the beginning of the season. After a DNF in Georgia and a 15th in Florida, we are sure he was thankful for the finish. Perryopolis, Pa.'s, Stephen McCulloch, took third overall in the youth race. McCulloch found himself in fourth after Big Buck.
morning Race
The morning consisted of a hard-fought battle among top Women-class racers. Traci Cecco, Angela Atwell and Steph Parton. The three riders were all within sight of each other for the full two hours of the race.
Yamaha's Traci Cecco led nearly the entire race, but some bizarre luck kept he out of the top spot by the end of the race. When she came across the finish line in third, she had about 100 feet of barbed wire wrapped around...
