Can you be a nostalgia parasite? Someone who lives off other people's memories rather than your own?
I think I am. At least I've always loved the stories of a slightly older generation than mine, so much so that I've called myself an archaeologist of gossip.For me it's as though the conversation had turned to my parents' best friends, and I wanted to chip in and say that I know them, I know all about them-but of course I don't. Not really. At least treasuring the secrets and stories of the past doesn't get you into trouble, not in the same way as white-hot gossip about your most intimate friends.
