Increased spirituality comes at a price.(distrust of atheists)(Brief article)
Americans are becoming more spiritual. But their acceptance of religious diversity doesn't extend to those who don't believe in the existence of God at all, atheists.
In fact, most Americans see atheists as a great threat to the American way of life--more so than Muslims, recent immigrants, lesbians and gays and other minorities. Atheists are the most distrusted minority.
Researchers at the University of Minnesota surveyed more than 2,000 households by telephone, and reported the results in the April issue of American Sociological Review.
