The large, front-wheel-drive Monte Carlo, based on the Chevrolet Impala, was updated for 2006 and received an optional 303-hp V8, which provides quick acceleration along with abundant wheelspin.
The Monte Carlo has the typical shortcomings of a large coupe: awkward rear-seat access, limited visibility, inadequate rear head room, and long, heavy doors. Fit and finish is much worse than the Impala it's based upon.
The Monte Carlo's ride is stiff and noisy. Its aging chassis and front-wheel drive leave the Monte Carlo SS outclassed by newer, rear-wheel-drive competitors such as the Mustang GT and the Pontiac GTO.
Reliability of the Monte Carlo has been above average and we expect that to continue.
