May 23--Starting this fall, some Indiana teens who might never have entered a college classroom will be able to take college courses -- and even obtain a two-year degree -- while in high school.
That opportunity will come from a new brand of charter school in Lawrence Township that is set for final approval today. It will be the first of its kind in Indiana and among a few dozen nationwide.
"I think it's a terrific idea that has the possibility of serving as a model for other schools," said Indianapolis Mayor Bart Peterson, who will formally approve the school's charter today. "The more options we have for our young people, the more attractive it makes Indianapolis."
