Campaigners have welcomed a council's decision to phase out products which have been tested on animals.

The British Union for the Abolition of Vivisection believes Leicester City Council is the first local authority in the country to take a stand against animal testing.

The authority announced last month that its animal-friendly purchasing policy aims to ensure the council buys products that have not been tested on animals.

It is aimed in particular at cleaning products, cosmetics and toiletries.

It also covers office products such as adhesives, correction fluid and ink cartridges, …
