Before mainstream network executives decided the LGBT market was a profitable one, shows like In the Life and Dyke TV were disseminating our stories on public broadcast and access networks nationally. No one would dare air them on major network television. But now, The L Word creator Ilene Chaiken claims, "No straight man in a suit ever dares to tell me what to do or how lesbians live their lives. I'm always treated as the expert."
This deference is a recent phenomenon.
