A few years ago, Esquire magazine created a reader panel and sent occasional surveys to selected subscribers. My name happened to come up on the list of prospects and I agreed to participate. One of the questionnaires involved, not surprisingly, attitudes toward luxury goods.
When the topic narrowed down to home electronics, the questions included one about "high end audio" and cited Bose and Philips as brands that relate to that term. I bubbled in my multiple choice responses, then I penned a dissenting comment in the margin that I now half regret--the Bose half.
