BRADENTON -- Ossie Ostrander loaded up his old .22-caliber pistol into a shoebox and traded it Saturday for $50 worth of gift certificates at Albertsons.
Ostrander handed over the aging weapon to the Bradenton Police Department during a three-day gun buyback program that continues today.
"That was too easy," said Ostrander, 76, a longtime Bradenton resident who said he had no use for the gun, a semi-automatic that his father once used at a hunting camp in Michigan.
Dozens of residents Saturday unloaded guns of all shapes and sizes -- from a small .25-caliber Beretta to a double-barrelled shotgun.
