THROUGH THE 2001 SEASON, THERE HAVE BEEN 219 MAJOR ague players who have collected 2,000 or more hits during their careers--with ten active players within 200 safeties of reaching the plateau. Among these 219 batters, 103 are right-handers, 94 are left-handed swingers, 22 are switch-batters and 97 have been elected to the Hall of Fame through 2001.

Note: Some players are still ineligible for Hall of Fame election.
