COLMES: Finally, Cingular Wireless removed a ring tone from its web site yesterday after learning that it carried a message the company called blatantly offensive.
According to the Brownsville Herald, the ring tone began with a siren, followed by a male voice with a Southern accent saying, "This is a migra," the slang term for the border patrol. The voice then said, "Por favor, put the oranges down and step away from the cell phone. I repeat-o. Put the oranges down and step away from the telephone-o. I'm deporting you back home-o." The ring tone became available on the company's web site in late February and was downloaded eight times. The ring tone itself was produced by the U.S. division of a French company. Cingular has apologized and the company is now reviewing the process used to screen what ring tones are available on their web site.
