Mead Johnson & Co. has recalled 41,464 24-oz. cans of Gentlease powdered infant formula because samples from this batch were found to contain metal particles up to 2.7 mm in size.
Such particles could present a serious risk to an infant's throat, as well as to the respiratory system if the infant inhaled the formula into the lungs. Coughing, difficulty swallowing, or difficulty breathing would be likely to show up within 3-4 hours. However, no illnesses had been reported in connection with this problem at the time of the recall.
