(From Nottingham Evening Post)
A Major re-focus of business over the past three years for the Long Eaton-based lingerie and swimwear manufacturer, Sherwood Group plc, has prevented the company from going bust.
Intense overseas competition and increasing pressure on prices saw turnover drop from more than GBP40m to GBP26.4m between 2002 and 2004.
Over the same period a pre tax-profit of GBP1.5m slumped to a loss of GBP3.7m.
Faced with the same kind of pressure, other companies have gone to the wall.
But for Sherwood Group, business is beginning to boom again.
Heading up the change is 44-year-old chief executive Carol Duncumb, a contender for the BT-sponsored Evening Post Nottinghamshire Woman Achiever of the Year Award.
