This Festschrift for the Emeritus Professor of Ecclesiastical History in the University of St Andrews contains, suitably enough, more about the Reformation than humanism, with events on the continent receiving the lion's share of attention. Most of the papers are on narrow subjects, although there are exceptions, notably a stimulating piece by Euan Cameron on the continuing links between humanism and the Reformation. In order to forge such links it is of course necessary to opt for a 'broad Church' interpretation of humanism.
