NEW DELHI, May 3 Asia Pulse - US footwear maker New Balance Athletic Shoe Inc, whose sports gear is available in India at Royal Sporting House and Shoppers Stop outlets, on Tuesday said it plans to open 50 exclusive outlets in the country by 2008.
The company, which also plans to put its products on the shelves of footwear chains like Bata, Regal, Metro, Lords and key department stores like Pantaloon and Lifestyle, said it would tap the market for running and walking shoes.
With fitness mania gripping the country, New Balance Asia head Darren Tucker estimated that runners and walkers category contributed to 20-22 per cent of the Rs 7 billion (US$156 million) sports footwear market in India.
