SEOUL/WASHINGTON, May 3 Asia Pulse - U.S. Ambassador to South Korea Alexander Vershbow said Wednesday he will begin a weeklong tour of seven American cities later in the day.
His trip with South Korea's top envoy in Washington Lee Tae-sik, sponsored by the Korean Economic Institute, is aimed at advertising the mutual benefits from the free trade agreement (FTA) sought by the two countries.
The ambassadors are scheduled to visit Los Angeles, Seattle, Minneapolis, Saint Louis, Detroit, Kansas City, and Washington.
South Korea and the U.S., which have almost wrapped up preliminary discussions, are set to launch full-scale talks on the FTA early next month with the aim of signing the deal within a year.
While economic policymakers and business leaders in both nations hail the FTA as a win-win move, some experts call for a cautious approach.
