A robber attempted to break into an 87-year-old woman's house in East St. Louis, Illinois, on February 7, but failed.
At about 2:00 a.m., Jacksie Mae King woke up when she heard someone trying to break into her home. She grabbed the pistol her daughter had given her following a home invasion two months earlier. In the earlier incident, she had been beaten and items were stolen. This time, King fired several shots through her front door. One shot hit the intruder, Larry Tillman, in the chest and killed him.
