More Americans regularly work out on treadmills than on any other piece of exercise equipment. If steep prices have been the only thing holding you back, now may be the time to hop on.
Our latest tests of treadmills turned up four models that while not inexpensive, do qualify as CR Best Buys. Among them is a nonfolding treadmill at $1,300, less than half the cost of other highly rated models. Two folding treadmills also earned the CR Best Buy designation, including the top-rated one at $1,500. If that's still more than you want to spend, you can get a very good exercise bike for $400 to $500 (see page 23).
