Farmer Len Ballinger, whose cattle were first to be linked to the theory that bovine TB comes from badgers, yesterday declared his land a no-kill zone.
A Government announcement which is expected to give the green light for a major cull of Britain's badgers is expected imminently.
The National Farmers' Union says there should be a mass cull of the animals to prevent the spread of the disease. It is costing the industry millions of pounds a year and is particularly rife in Gloucestershire, Herefordshire, Devon and Cornwall.
