New types of calendars share ideas--daily.
* In Denver, a software programmer who was tired of being one of few females in the office decided to don a miniskirt in a recruitment effort. Lilac Mohr put together a calendar of "gorgeous geeks," with the proceeds going to scholarships for girls interested in studying computer science.
"Whenever I worked with other female software engineers, I found them to be more receptive to ideas and more collaborative," said Mohr. "The world could really use more women in the field." She advertised on Craig's List's online classifieds and had no problem finding 12 attractive women working in computers, including a real rocket scientist.
Miss October is Lynn Lauritsen, a software engineer who posed wearing roller skates and carrying a plate of iPods. Mohr wears a miniskirt and flashes vintage Nintendo guns.
It also includes the women's bios, statements of what it's like to be outnumbered by men in the workplace, and key dates in history for geeks.
