I read Rita Baum's letter "Likes Wiretapping" in the March 6, issue, in which she scolds THE NEW AMERICAN for being against unregulated wiretapping, and I would like to offer some food for thought.
Suppose your sister is married to someone from the Middle East. Suppose your family gets together for dinners once a week at your house. Suppose your brother-in-law calls his family once a week, and they happen to live in the Middle East. Suppose from time to time he calls overseas from your house after dinner. Suppose your brother-in-law's mom happens to mention that one of his distant relatives has joined an anti-American hate group.
Now suppose the next day you see a van parked outside your house. Suppose it stays there for weeks, maybe months, ...
