Frank Leist was well known to the citizens of Horton Bay, Michigan. He was a farmer, owned a local livestock business, and also worked as an auctioneer. But most of all, he was a good neighbor.

When Mr. Leist passed away on August 13, leaving behind his wife, Ruth, it was discovered that he had left money to establish a fund for farmers in need. Prompted by his lifetime of helpfulness to his community, his neighbors decided to repay his kindness. Droves of them came to help Mrs. Leist and her son, Frank Leist II, harvest the crops on the several hundred acres they farmed. So many came that they harvested in a few days what normally would take weeks to finish.
