A new online tool can help schools determine if they are doing a good job providing accessible technology to all students, including those with and without disabilities.
"School districts that provide unlimited and effective use of accessible technologies are raising the bar for education technologies," said Keith Krueger, CEO of Consortium for School Networking, the group that developed the tool. "This new tool will help districts assess if they are falling behind in regards to accessible technology and how hey can catch up."
The Accessible Technologies for All Students Self-Assessment Tool looks at six factors: (1) vision, (2) communication and collaboration, (3) funding, (4) professional development and awareness, (5) infrastructure and (6) instruction and assessment.
It is designed for use by school districts, but would also be useful for individual schools, said Linda Sharp, Accessible Technologies for All Students project manager. "This really is designed to get a real quick glance of where you are in terms of communication and vision and the whole concept f accessible technology," she told ETN.
