Scaring seniors over choices.(drug prescription laws)(Brief article)
Democrats and liberals will have none of this tapping on the brakes. They are already trying to scare seniors into believing that they can't be trusted to make the choices within the prescription drug bill. Many statists prefer a system akin to that run by the Department of Veterans Affairs, which mandates prices for drugs.
Planners for the senior activist group AARP have come up with a new proposal, points out Robert Goldberg, director of the Manhattan Institute's Center for Medical Progress. This plan, he points out, was actually drafted by Democrats in Congress. This would "scrap private health plans and set up a National Drug Formulary much like the one operated by the Veterans Affairs health system. The goal is not just to control drug prices but also to get private plans out of the drug-benefit business in order to make life simpler for seniors."
