Cubs pitching coach Larry Rothschild has caught a lot of heat for the many injuries suffered by righthanders Kerry Wood and Mark Prior. Both will begin this season on the disabled list. Rothschild, who has been guiding Chicago's staff since the start of the 2002 season, defends his aces and how they have been handled. His take on:

Whether Prior has to learn to pitch through some pain

"He's aware there are some things he needs to pitch through. As a young pitcher, to decipher which ones you have to pitch through and which ones you don't is a tough thing.

"But this (shoulder strain), I don't think he was going to pitch through that. He ended up with a pulled muscle."
