CHICAGO WHITE SOX
LHP Boone Logan, 21, has pitched four games above the advanced rookie league but made the 25-man roster after a stellar spring because the team wanted him to develop in the majors, much as LHP Neal Cotts did two years ago. Logan got the roster spot instead of experienced LHP Javier Lopez.... RHP Dustin Hermanson (back) started the regular season on the 15-day D.L but might not be available until June or July. MR. APRIL: SS Juan Uribe entered 2006 with a career .342 average in April, and he seems to have found a comfort zone offensively with a more patient approach and a more consistent stance from at-bat to at-bat Uribe initially was slated for the No. 2 spot in the lineup, which would have forced him to be even less of a free swinger, but the team decided to put Tadahito Iguchi back at No. 2. where he excelled last season. Uribe is another power threat deep in the order.--Scott Merkin
CLEVELAND INDIANS
LHP C.C. Sabathia, the club's opening day starter, says he finally has a handle on his emotions. Until the middle of last season. Sabathia would speak out or make gestures when he thought he wasn't getting calls from umpires. Emotions often got the best of him. When Sabathia stopped complaining and stayed focused, his performance improved.... The club still is counting on RHP Matt Miller to be a productive reliever. He was eased into camp while recovering from an elbow injury suffered last season. Sometimes he seemed to be thinking too much on the mound.
MR. APRIL: CF Grady Sizemore was a model of consistency in his approach, demeanor and work ethic during spring training. He played as though he was trying to make the club rather than just get ready for the season. Sizemore will carry that consistency into the regular season and continue to produce the way he did last year.--Anthony Castrovince
KANSAS CITY ROYALS
The team put RHP Runelvys Hernandez on the D.L. because he lacked stamina--he could throw about only 50 pitches before becoming ineffective. Hernandez will make a few starts at Class AAA Omaha and return to the team on April 14, the first time it needs a fifth starter.... OF Shane Costa, a long shot to make the team when camp began, won the backup job over Aaron Gulel and Chip Ambres. Costa is a lefthanded hitter with good speed ...
