The line at the Hyatt Regency on the shore of Lake Michigan was three, sometimes four fans wide, weaving through the depths of the hotel's Gold Level, along hallways, past oversize mirrors and the green plastic of faux potted plants, up the stairs through the Bronze Level, up more stairs to the lobby, where it wound around the perimeter into the north door of the Crystal Ballroom, out the ballroom's south door, back into the lobby and outside into the Chicago winter afternoon. More and more fans added to the line's impossible length. Eventually, it reached Michigan Avenue.
