Marketing approval in Europe granted to Cubicin.(PIPELINE PREVIEWS)
Chiron Corporation recently announced that Cubicin (daptomycin) was granted marketing approval by the European Commission. The FDA approved Cubicin in September of 2003 for the treatment of complicated skin and soft-tissue infections. Cubicin is an IV antibiotic that is indicated for the treatment of those infections that are caused by Gram-positive bacteria. This drug has a unique mechanism of action that prevents it from being susceptible to typical methods of antibiotic resistance employed by certain bacteria.
