Vietnam wishes to maintain peace for its socioeconomic development, but is willing to take action against any encroachment upon the nation's territory, waters, airspace, or threats to its national interests, according to a newly-released Government White Paper.

Deputy Defence Minister Senior Lt-Gen Nguyen Van Hieu introduced to local and foreign media workers the White Paper entitled "Vietnam's National Defence in the Early Years of the 21st Century" in Hanoi on Thursday [9 December].
