ANNOUNCER: Today, "Desperate Housewives" puts ABC back on the map.
Prescription drug alternatives, are they worth the risk?
Plus, cigar bars, wine bars, and now cereal bars.
And now, with their take on the news of the day, the Dolans.
DARIA DOLAN: Hey, listen, this is a great entrepreneurial story.
KEN DOLAN: Cereal bars. DARIA DOLAN: It`s a fabulous entrepreneurial story. KEN DOLAN: Oh, cereal bars. DARIA DOLAN: Welcome, everybody, to today` edition of DOLANS UNSCRIPTED. KEN DOLAN: Oh, man. DARIA DOLAN: We`re so glad that you chose to join us.
KEN DOLAN: That is correct. We are the Dolans, Ken and Daria Dolan at your service. Our A-team gang is here. It`s the best, the finest team in television. And, don`t forget, something we do that nobody else does, I won`t tell you why, and that is simply because we take calls directly from you twice a day, not to our guests, but to us, to tell us what`s on your mind. Maybe ask a money question, comment on something we`re talking about. DARIA DOLAN: And today . . . KEN DOLAN: What?
DARIA DOLAN: We`re taking it to the streets again.
KEN DOLAN: Going to New York first. DARIA DOLAN: Yes, we`re going to take questions from the streets of New York.
KEN DOLAN: And then where else are we going?
DARIA DOLAN: And then we are going to take questions from the streets of Chicago.
KEN DOLAN: The windy city.
DARIA DOLAN: Well, it can`t be any windier than it is in New York today. I almost took off.
KEN DOLAN: But, Daria, you are the biggest wimp in the world. If it`s below 75 degrees, it`s a cold streak for you.
DARIA DOLAN: Yes.
KEN DOLAN: Wait til the snow comes.
DARIA DOLAN: That`s why I live in Florida.
KEN DOLAN: Jay. JAY CONROY, CREW MEMBER, DOLANS UNSCRIPTED: Yes. KEN DOLAN: When the snow comes in New York . . . CONROY: Yes. KEN DOLAN: She`s not coming back. She`s not coming back. It will be you and me.
CONROY: That`s frightening.
KEN DOLAN: And you can wear a pink shirt and a pink puff, too. Won`t that be fun?
Anyway, so we`re going to go man on the street in Chicago today. I`m looking forward to that. I will tell you this, the two coldest times in my life. When I was in the Navy, I was conning a ship and I was in the North Atlantic. I had a full bridge coat on, 17 sweater, et cetera. As if I was standing naked, it was that cold. The second, LaSalle in Jackson Street in Chicago. I used to go to the Chicago Board of Trade and the Chicago Board Offices Exchange every month when I was on Wall Street, because that was sort of my business. And LaSalle and Jackson, with the wind come down Michigan, oh, boy, was it cold.
DARIA DOLAN: I want to be invited to go to Chicago in the summer. We have only ever had to go there in the winter. It`s cold there in the winter.
KEN DOLAN: How about Washington? Should we take a quick trip?
DARIA DOLAN: Well, let`s do that because there was a new . . . KEN DOLAN: Hold on, we`ve got music. I`ve got music here, all right?
Shattered dreams. We talked about at the open of the show the privatization of Social Security is something the Republicans have been floating, including and plus the tax code and all that stuff. But it took a little bit of a bloody nose, which we`re going to talk about.
DARIA DOLAN: Well, it certainly would be for the Democrats to jump on but an unusual move by Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist has given those Democrats an opening to pounce on the Republican plans to partially privatize Social Security.
KEN DOLAN: Yes, that`s right. A campaign fund, Frist 2000, Bill Frist, as these are funds left over, has lost $460,000 in the stock market since the year 2000. And now the …
