CuraGen Corporation shares leapt more than 14 percent after the company announced that the U.S. Food and Drug Administration has granted Fast Track status to its CG53135 drug, a new treatment being developed for the prevention and treatment of oral mucositis.

Electroglas Inc. shares rose almost 4 percent after the company said it plans to sell its San Jose manufacturing plant. It did not name a buyer or a price.

Enzon Pharmaceuticals' shares added more than 8 percent despite news that an oncology drugs advisory committee of the FDA voted unanimously against recommending accelerated approval for the cancer drug, Marqibo, which being jointly developed by Enzon and Inex Pharmaceuticals .
