Home office blocks plans to resettle refugees.

The Home Office is set to block plans to resettle refugees from war-ravaged areas of the world to a Westcountry city as part of a United Nations programme.

About 60 refugees - ten families with children - were due to begin a new life in Exeter from early next year.

However, Devon County Council says it has been told by the Home Office that it is not going ahead with the scheme.

The local authority says Whitehall officials have made it clear that this is because the resettlement programme does not have the support of the city council.
