ATLANTA -- Better cardiac disease awareness and prevention programs that target younger women are needed, according to a study presented during a prevention conference on heart disease and stroke sponsored by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
In the study, risk factors for cardiac disease were common among women aged 34-64 years who presented with myocardial infarction.
Of 50 such women, with a mean age of 54 years, 18% had 1-3 risk factors, 42% had 4-6 risk factors, and 40% had 7-10 risk factors, Lucia Kamm-Steigelman, Ph.D., and colleagues at Emory University, Atlanta, reported in a poster.
