I have some concerns about medical research ("Doctor Groups Still Back Clinical Trials Registry," Oct. 1, 2004, p. 47).
With regard to selective reporting of clinical trials, it seems clear to me that to make the best decisions, all the data are required.
Failing to publish studies which are either negative or "neutral" precludes rational decision making.
I'm not involved in the medical research community and hence do not know how much of a problem selective reporting is.
I would say, however, that the quality of the papers I read in the journals I follow is not good. More often than not, papers publish correlational data ...
