Spread out like a giant welcome mat at the end of a sand sprinkled highway, the Imperial Sand Dunes awaited our next test: the Yamaha Raptor 700R. When Yamaha declared its fuel-injected quad the "most versatile sport ATV ever produced" during our initial test at East Fork Rock OHV in Oregon, we withheld judgement on the claim. Versatility is a key factor when purchasing a sport quad. Most consumers don't just race, nor do they only trail ride. We've tested the Raptor 700R on a long trail ride, at the track and in the tight woods--all at varying elevations--with good results. But we were still missing out on one dynamic riding area: the dunes. Sand riders are fanatics who know what they want from a sport quad. If the ATV can't perform, it will quickly be dismissed by the duning faithful. So, just how versatile is the Raptor 700R? We were quick to find out.
