THE Athens Stock Exchange was established in 1876 and it became a Public Law Entity in 1918. In 1995, ASE was converted from a Public Law Entity into a Societe Anonyme while in 1997, the partial privatisation of the Athens Stock Exchange took place. In year 2000, Hellenic Exchanges Holding (HELEX), the holding company of ASE, was established and listed on the Main Market. In May 2001, MSCI upgraded the Greek Capital Market to the developed market status. In 2002, Athens Stock Exchange and Athens Derivatives Exchange merged into ATHENS EXCHANGE. HELEX was fully privatised in September 2003.
