Three million bags of maize have been imported to boost the national strategic reserves.

Private firms and the National Cereals and Produce Board have imported 1.5 million bags each.

"We will soon meet our requirements after the harvesting of maize in the North Rift is complete," said Agriculture minister Kipruto Kirwa after opening a scientific conference at the Kenya Plant Health Inspectorate Service, yesterday.

The minister said he was confident food security would improve once harvesting was complete.
