BEIJING, Nov 30 Asia Pulse - China hopes for fair competition with Pakistan's textile sector after the elimination of the quota system from January 1, 2005.
"We believe the competition will intensify after the quotas are eliminated, as textile producers in Pakistan will challenge Chinese manufacturers," Wang Xiangfeng, senior official of a leading Chinese textile export company, said.
However, he asserted China would not dominate the textile market in 2005, stating: "If China wants to move higher, it will naturally give up the low end to other countries such as Pakistan, Vietnam and Bangladesh."
In an interview, he quoted a report published by the US International Trade Commission (ITC) which says China is expected to become the "supplier of choice" for most US textile and apparel importers after 2005. The report said the US importers should expand the trade ...
