BRISBANE, Dec 1 Asia Pulse - Singapore Airlines (SIA) (SGX:SIAL) will reduce travel agent base commissions on international fares sold in Australia from nine to seven per cent next year.
The move is in line with the global industry trend which has seen base commissions come down in almost all major markets.
SIA spokeswoman Samantha Stewart said cost pressures brought about by rising fuel prices, the emergence of new low cost airlines and the expense of distribution are significant.
She said the airline considered carefully the impact of savings that could be generated by a reduction in commissions, which will kick in on February 1.
