MANILA, Dec 1 Asia Pulse - The number of gasoline stations offering diesel discounts to public transport groups has reached a total of 219, the Department of Energy (DoE) today said.
DoE Secretary Vincent Perez said oil companies have heeded the government's call to assist the public transport groups in light of the rising fuel prices.
"From only about 154 late last week, we have (now) 219 service stations giving 50-centavos per liter discount on diesel. And the number is growing as oil companies are afraid to lose their market due to intense competition," Perez said.
"These stations are strategically located along the major routes of the public transport to ensure that they are being served," he noted.
Some of oil companies offering a 50-centavo per liter diesel discount include the Big Three -- Shell, Caltex and semi state-owned Petron. Independent oil player Seaoil is likewise giving diesel discounts, among others.
