TAIPEI, Dec 1 Asia Pulse - The Lin Yuan Group was Taiwan's largest business in 2003, with assets value totaling NT$2.38 trillion (US$72 billion) , according to survey results made public Tuesday by the China Credit Information Service Ltd. (CCIS).
The Mega Holdings Group and the Chinatrust Group lagged behind in second and third places, with assets standing at NT$1.78 trillion and NT$1.57 trillion, respectively, according to the survey results. The First Financial Holdings Company and the Hsin Kuang Group were the fourth and fifth wealthiest groups.
The combined assets value of the country's 250 wealthiest groups amounted to NT$31.62 trillion last year, an average of NT$120 billion per group, up from the 2002 level of NT$113.4 billion.
The leading 250 largest enterprises conducted total business worth NT$12.19 trillion in 2003, higher than the country's gross national product of NT$10.17 trillion for the same year.
At the same time, the Formosa Plastics Group (FPG) was ranked as Taiwan's No. 1 group in terms of revenues in 2003, posting NT$938.7 billion (US$28.2 billion) , according to the CCIS poll findings. FPG was the sole manufacturing group to make the top 10 business groups list in terms of assets, achieving seventh spot.
