GANGTOK, Dec 1 Asia Pulse - Experts discussed here the strength and weakness of sericulture industry in the north-eastern states as well as West Bengal.
In his inaugural address Tuesday, Additional Chief Conservator of forest, Sikkim, T R Poudyal, emphasised the non-traditional nature of sericulture in the Himalayan state.
Non-traditional sericulture was started in Sikkim in late 1970s and gained ground over the years with its concentration on mulberry, muga, he said.
Sericulture which has been introduced in three out of four districts of Sikkim covers an area of 430 acres in the state, Poudyal said.
