U.S.-based Cendant Corporation, the world's largest lodging franchiser, has signed a deal with Hermitage Hospitality to develop 45 of its midrange Days Inn hotels in Russia and 14 former Soviet countries over the next five years, the companies announced last week.

With 6,400 hotels, Cendant, whose hotel and travel-related brands include Howard Johnson, Knights Inn, Ramada, Super 8, Travelodge, and Avis car rentals, controls roughly one quarter of the world's midpriced accommodation market, according to the company.
