FIVE Japanese information technology companies have firmed up plans to locate their offshore operations in the country, according to the Department of Trade and Industry.
Trade Undersecretary Elmer C. Hernandez said the firms were setting up businesses here to engage in software development and engineering as well as web-enabled services.
The Japanese companies are MSI Co. Ltd., Tokyo Kyoso Computer Inc., Unico Technos Co. Ltd., Iris Co. Ltd. and You-Net Co. Ltd.
Hernandez did not say how much investment was coming in, but he said these projects showed the predisposition of mostly medium-sized Japanese companies to look for investment locations outside their country.
"These firms have seen the (Philippines') skilled manpower especially in computer programming and web-based proficiency," he said. "They have seen that our expertise can match their production requirements."
