SAVE for a loud bang heard from atop Mount Mingan, a rapid avalanche of logs, boulders and thick mud about 15 foot high rolled down with hardly any warning onto Barangay Paltic in Dingalan, Aurora, at 5:40 a.m. on Nov. 23.
The landslide, which changed course twice but kept on cutting through the village, gobbled up everything on its path, including people jolted from sleep.
Before noon, the death toll reached 15 people. By Friday, Nov. 26, it was 29, including those from Barangay Dikapanikian.
Shaken by the disaster, the residents asked: Was this the wrath of Typhoon "Violeta"? Or was this the result of almost nine decades of commercial logging?
LAST Saturday, Fatima Rotaquio, 34, buried all of her four children and her mother, Maxima de la Cruz.
