THE PHILIPPINE Racing Commission's intensive drive against the horse disease equine infectious anemia (EIA) yesterday got the full backing of several lawmakers following the assurance by the country's horse racing groups that they are solidly behind the campaign.
In a recent meeting with top officials of the Marho, Philtobo and Klub Don Juan de Manila, Rep. Benhur Abalos (Mandaluyong), Rep. Luis "Baby" Asistio (Caloocan), Rep. Mikey Arroyo (Pampanga), Rep. Abraham Mitra (Palawan) and Rep. Mark Cojuangco (Pangasinan) all endorsed the Philracom project, saying it is vital to the development of the local racing industry.
Abalos said the three racing groups all reiterated their stand to fully support the Philracom under chair Jimmy Dilag in its all-out war against the EIA virus.
"If we don't address the EIA problem, the local racing industry will suffer," said Abalos, a horseowner who chairs the house committee on appropriations for the Philracom, Games and Amusements Board, and Philippine Sports Commission.
